At The Wood Project, we create custom dining tables in Melbourne from logs that we’ve sourced and salvaged ourselves. Made from joined timber boards that we mill and kiln dry, our dining tables are full of rich character and charm that you won’t find anywhere else.

We salvage logs from throughout Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, preventing them from going to waste and giving them a second life as stylish and functional dining tables. Our beautiful handmade dining tables allow you to make a sustainable choice that doesn’t cost the earth.

We create three different styles of custom dining tables in Melbourne, each with its own distinctive structure and composition of legs. Each one of these tables can be designed to your specifications, taking into consideration your preferred specs, choice of timber and finish.

Slab Tables vs. Board Tables

At The Wood Project, it’s long been our speciality to mill our salvaged logs into solid timber slabs. These custom dining tables in Melbourne are cut lengthwise and have a live edge on both sides, with organic lines and striking, rustic features that give them a unique and characterful finish.

Now, we’re excited to announce that we’ve begun creating board tables, which provide a more modern, sleek appearance. Board tables are both affordable and versatile, allowing our tables to feel right at home in an even wider range of homes.

If you need help choosing the best table for your home, The Wood Project team can help. Our experts are here to offer their professional advice and help you create a custom dining table that’s perfectly suited to the rest of your interior and can bring your space to life.

Our Timber

Here at The Wood Project, we don’t want to see beautiful timber go to waste. That’s why we see creating custom dining tables in Melbourne as an opportunity to give this timber a second life and a place in your heart.

All of the timber we use is recycled and salvaged from the tree removal industry, which means some of these trees are over a century old. This gives the wood its own story that you won’t find in plantation timber, bringing into your home something that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else. This timber has a reclaimed look, with much hard work and love that goes into producing the finished product. Each timber slab carries its own story, told through its beautiful lines, notches and live edges which will now live on in your family for generations to come.

If you buy one of our custom dining tables in Melbourne, you’re making a sustainable choice that reduces your carbon footprint. As well as this, you’ll be rewarded with a table that’s full of life and made with love by The Wood Project team. Frequently Asked
Questions

Read some of the commonly asked questions from our customers about custom-made dining tables.

  • Right here, by us, in our Hastings Factory on the Mornington Peninsula

  • We locally outsource the manufacturing of the steel dining table legs. We design every set of legs for their unique slab top. This enables us to seamlessly fabricate the legs to showcase the beautiful timber top and ensures that legs will be hidden when there are large resin voids etc in the timber.

  • The quality and beauty of your timber slab table top can be easily maintained. The patina of the timber will change over time adding to the beautiful character of your timber top.

We recommend using a damp soft cloth, usually warm soapy water is enough. We recommend you refrain from ever using any type of cleaning solution or solvent on our timbers. Never leave spills for long periods and always wipe dry.

  • Our timber boards are cut from recycled trees, this means the timber has high feature such as sap veins and pockets, compression grain etc - often when you buy furniture from larger organisations the timber quality and grain can be very basic - you can not compare our timber to that.

  • It's preferable to avoid placing your indoor table in sunlight or in the direct path of air conditioning systems. The timber will naturally expand and contract, but sunlight & great variations in temperature & humidity will exacerbate this movement. We take the utmost care in drying our timbers to ensure optimal moisture content and with larger slabs in most cases we relief cut the underside of the slab to allow for movement.

  • We have timber board samples available that you can purchase from our online store. If you choose to go ahead, the cost of your sample will be deducted from your dining table quote.
